astrology for the week of 5/23/24 - 5/31/24
the stars above us:
today’s full moon in sagittarius is a peak, a culmination as all full moon are but in so many other ways it’s literally just the beginning of the story. the full moon is ruled by jupiter currently in the final degree of taurus conjunct venus, the taurean queen.
tomorrow venus enters gemini (a beginning) and two days later jupiter enters gemini (beginning #2) for a year long exile that ends in summer 2025 with uranus’ entrance into gemini (alongside saturn + neptune into aries aka the big bang beginning when the world as we know it flips inside out).
the annual sagittarius full moon is always (archetypally) about freedom, and the rebirth that follows the ego death of scorpio. we flesh that storyline out by looking at both the condition of the moon + her ruler(s) and the overall configuration of the sky at the moment of perfection.
so jupiter’s imminent journey thru the temple of the twins is possibly the most important piece of action overhead, with the benefics being both conjunct AND deeply combust coming in at a close second. and while there is a (by sign, not degree) square from saturn here, that doesn’t really become relevant until the venus cazimi new moon in gemini (yes really) on june 6th. because THAT is the moon that will be within 2° of ye old kronos square. fun times ahead for the intrepid souls among us.
jupiter in gemini:
jupiter finds it’s detriment in the mercury ruled signs because jupiter is a planet of oaths and mercury is a planet of options. jupiter’s ability to produce life + abundance comes in part from it’s ability to stay the course, as both the (slower moving) outer planets tend to do. jupiter nurtures whatever it has sworn too, sometimes feeding what should be starved instead (and that’s when we call in saturn).
in gemini, jupiter isn’t functioning at peak levels of optimism and unwavering dedication. it’s wrapped up in the mercurial marketplace of choice, ideas, whims, thought streams, analysis and exploration. gemini is the collective mind, the zeitgeist; chattering + plotting an uncertain course into the future of…something.
but of course somehow, someway these two opposing forces must find a way to come together. mercurial discernment and solutions need sound moral code behind them and for jupiter to *truly* broaden its horizons it must be able to surrender some cognitive bias and take in new ideas. to that end, this transit will be a masterclass in gently re-directing the mind back to the topic of choice, not the (many) topics at hand. the one that deserves your attention, the one you will choose to give life to. the one you will commit to once all options have been explored.
future lore:
which leads us into the Combustion Of The Benefics. combustion and cazimi are both solar conditions based on principles of planetary visibility i.e what we can see with the naked eye. when a planet is within 15° of the sun in either direction it disappears into the sun’s rays, which (according to ancient astrologers) was an omen of not awesome things to come for the planet in question.
have you ever been caught in the rays of triple digit heat w/o shelter? it is literally a desperate state of affairs, there is nothing you can do but find a way out of the blaze. and that’s what happens to combust planets, they burn up and either lose the ability to carry out the mission completely OR have their benefits obscured from easy view.
half way thru this planetary death march we have cazimi, the moment when the planet passes thru the heart of the sun, a process of purification and renewal. renewed in cycle (a synodic cycle ends and a new one begins) and purified in content (the planets have moved into new areas of the chart with new focus and new lessons)
jupiter has completed it’s cazimi, the next loop has begun and the sun is separating with jup nearly on the other side of the beams. when does jupiter FULLY escape the beams? the new moon on june 6th.
meanwhile venus is approaching the sun for her upcoming cazimi, with the ghosts of her previous solar cycle begging for burial. venus is coming to the end of her morning star phase, a phase she began with last summer’s retrograde cazimi in leo (shudders). when does venus perfect her cazimi and start the journey to the other side? the new moon on june 6th.
what does it mean? until june’s new moon, the blessings + opportunities of these cycles may not be clearly labeled to be cultivated. venus will actually leave gemini before her new storyline comes into view (but what a debut when it does! you’re gonna love it). playful skepticism paired with an open mind will serve you very well in the days ahead. all that glitters isn’t gold and some of that bullshit is going to be needed to fertilize the works to come, you know what i mean?
anyways it’s gemini season in the biggest of ways and there’s no door that can’t be opened with an agile mind and eloquent wit. there are no thresholds that can’t be crossed, no bargains that can’t be reached.
it’s only in the choosing that things get tricky, but for now we are in exploratory mode. WE RIDE AT DAWN.
